KICK OFF MEETING MARE PROJECT

18/09//2026 | University of Cagliari

KICK OFF MEETING MARE PROJECT

Kick-Off Meeting of the “MARE” Project (Monitoring and Analysis Research Ecosystem), jointly organized by Fondazione INF-ACT and e.INS SCARL (PNRR Hubs and project coordinators), in collaboration with the University of Cagliari, will be held on 18 September 2026 at the Aula Magna of the University of Cagliari. The event represents an important opportunity to present the activities that will be carried out over the next three years and to illustrate how the proposed initiatives will contribute to the development and consolidation of research capacities in health, technology, and data governance among the centers of excellence located in the Southern regions of Italy.

Within the MARE project, the expertise of Fondazione INF-ACT (Hub of the MUR-PNRR Extended Partnership on Infectious Diseases) and e.INS SCARL (PNRR Hub of the MUR-PNRR Sardinia Innovation Ecosystem) come together to strengthen national research capacities in health, technology, and data governance.

The project is structured around two lines of action, both focused on the development and implementation of integrated technology value chains, with particular emphasis on the integrated management of digital data within a One Health framework. The project includes activities for monitoring infectious and parasitological risks at sites of particular relevance for the entry of potential pathogens and vectors (ports and airports), the development of innovative therapeutic strategies, and, finally, the capitalization of the experience gained during the three-year INF-ACT project, enhancing its pharmacological potential through preclinical development, together with the experience accumulated within the e.INS ecosystem, particularly in the development of digital and health technologies.

Within the DoMARE line, these activities are translated into high-application-potential research activities aimed at developing products to be commercialized at the end of the project, as well as validated methodologies ready for field implementation by potential end users. The second line, PlasMARE, represents the technological infrastructure component required to transform what will be developed within MARE into a widespread and pervasive technological and innovation ecosystem. It will facilitate technology transfer in the healthcare sector, bridge the gap between research and practical application, and enhance the generation, analysis, and management of data. By acting across complementary areas (implementation and infrastructure development), MARE will foster the adoption of intelligent technologies in public and regional settings, strengthening prevention, responses to potential health crises, and the development of innovative therapeutic solutions.

The MARE Project is funded under the National Research, Innovation and Competitiveness Programme for the Green and Digital Transition 2021–2027 (PN RIC 2021–2027), an initiative supported by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and managed by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), together with the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE).
